Atuação do cirurgião-dentista na prevenção da pneumonia nosocomial

Abstract

A Odontologia Hospitalar visa a preservação do bom estado de saúde bucal do indivíduo que se encontra hospitalizado. Almeja-se a melhoria da saúde sistêmica do paciente, uma vez que diversos tipos de enfermidades podem ser desencadeadas por agravos na saúde bucal. A Pneumonia Nosocomial é uma infecção desenvolvida no ambiente hospitalar que afeta o trato respiratório inferior, sendo a mais comum das infecções desse tipo, além de gerar altas taxas de mortalidade e elevar os custos hospitalares. Este estudo teve como objetivo geral conhecer, através da literatura, as evidências científicas sobre a atuação do cirurgião-dentista na prevenção da pneumonia nosocomial. O estudo caracterizou-se como uma revisão de literatura integrativa; foram feitas buscas nas bases de dados da Scientific Electronic Library e a Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. Os descritores são: Hospitais (Hospitals), Pneumonia (Pneumonia), Higiene dentária (Dental hygiene), Pneumonia nosocomial (Nosocomial Pneumonia), Higiene bucal (Oral Hygiene). Como critérios de inclusão foram listados: artigos em português e inglês, que estavam na íntegra e disponíveis na forma on-line, dentro do período de 2018 a maio de 2023. A pesquisa mostra que é indispensável a presença do cirurgião dentista como parte da equipe multidisciplinar e que profissionais de saúde devem ser treinados para implementar medidas preventivas de cuidado ao paciente internado. Assim, pode-se concluir que o cirurgião-dentista tem um papel importante no âmbito hospitalar na prevenção da Pneumonia Nosocomial e Pneumonia Associada à Ventilação Mecânica. Ademais, quando são utilizados os protocolos de higiene bucal corretamente, há redução significativa no tempo de internamento e nos custos hospitalares. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Hospital Dentistry aims to preserve the good oral health status of the individual who is hospitalized. The aim is to improve the systemic health of the patient, since several types of diseases can be triggered by oral health problems. Nosocomial Pneumonia is an infection developed in the hospital environment that affects the lower respiratory tract, being the most common of the infections of this type, in addition to generating high mortality rates and increasing hospital costs. This study had as general objective to know through the literature the scientific evidence on the performance of the dentist in the prevention of nosocomial pneumonia. The study was characterized as an integrative literature review; searches were made in the databases of the Scientific Electronic Library and the Virtual Health Library. The descriptors are: Hospitals (Hospitals), Pneumonia (Pneumonia), Dental hygiene (Dental hygiene), Pneumonia nosocomial (Nosocomial Pneumonia), Oral hygiene (Oral Hygiene). The inclusion criteria were: articles in Portuguese and English, which were in full and available in online form, within the period from 2018 to 2023. The research shows that the presence of the dentist as part of the multidisciplinary team is indispensable and that health professionals should be trained to implement preventive measures of care for the hospitalized patient. Thus, it can be concluded that the dentist has an important role in the hospital environment in the prevention of Nosocomial Pneumonia and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia. In addition, when oral hygiene protocols are used correctly, there is a significant reduction in hospitalization time and hospital costs.
